Impression
There's a lot to love about 2nd Bridge Brewing. It's an unpretentious neighborhood brewery on a shabby back lot of an old manufacturing building; the door is a hole in the wall with a speakeasy feel (no grille window; steel front); and the terrace is an 5 x 20 foot poured block of cement with a heavy black-rail enclosure. Stepping inside is like entering a pub in the original Manchester, or Chelsea's Stamford Bridge, not 2nd Bridge. On every available space are posters, scarves, autographed jerseys, and all manner of soccer paraphernalia from just about every famous - or not - club in the world. Turns out, Steve White grew up playing soccer, and had a professional career in it. There are multiple TVs that stream only soccer, and the place is known among soccer folks in the area as the only place to "have a pint." Unfortunately, 2nd Bridge is where I had a butyric acid incident. I later found out that one of the beers I had was an attempt at wild yeast fermentation, but that something more than yeast had infiltrated the brew. No worries - we laughed about it. Still, I had to admire the attempt at making a wild beer; I will always applaud brewers who go the extra mile and take risks. I would probably go back at this point to re-taste. I just don't get to Manchester every day.
BEERS TASTED
Beer 1: Feed & Chicken French Style Saison (5.4% abv) No real flavor. (Tasted at 2nd Bridge 7/16/21.)
Beer 2: Mr. Blahkay's Wheat Ale (4.7% abv) Good, full-bodied beer with nice banana on nose, but the flavor tails off. Good carbonation, but no head to speak of. (Tasted at 2nd Bridge 7/16/21.)
Beer 3: Pink Cockles in a Bag Raspberry Berliner Weiße (4.5% abv) Bacterially infected - a flavor of butyric acid. This was an attmept at a wild yeast beer, and there was something more than yeast in the batch! (Tasted at 2nd Bridge 7/16/21.)
Beer 4: Orville's Oatmeal Stout (5.6% abv) Classic coffee flavor. Decent carbonation. Light body. (Tasted at 2nd Bridge 7/16/21.)
