Impression

Alvarium is a really nice, cozy room, with a big bar and table area. The room is very spacious. When I was there, it was also very full, so that's a good sign, but a touch cramped, if that was at all possible, given the size of the room. Still, a very pleasant experience, with really good beer. Small criticism: there are too many IPAs on the menu. Pet peeve: the "Order Here" sign is higher than eye level, which caused no small amount of tsuris for the Bartendress, who got a little annoyed with me because I was not at the proper place in line, despite being the next to be served. So sign could be lower, and I'll admit maybe I should stretch my neck too. No biggie. Just an observation.

BEERS TASTED

Beer 1: Secret Handshake Motueka Hops Pale Lager (4.4% abv) Fresh, very clean, with a touch of bitter on the end. Very enjoyable brew. (Tasted at Alvarium 8/28/19.)

Beer 5: Speed Mettül Coffee Stout (7.2% abv) Big, nice coffee flavor. Nothing original, but nothing unpleasant, either. Very well made. The coffee is sourced from the Saccuzzo Coffee Company of Newington, CT. (Tasted at Alvarium 8/28/19.)

Beer 2: Kraftwerk Hefeweizen (4.8% abv) FIRST TASTING: Connecticut-grown wheat and German malts. Very close in flavor to Bavarian Weizen models. Wonderful wheat aromas and great flavor. (Tasted at Alvarium 8/28/19.) SECOND TASTING: Hefe taste not as strong as on first tasting. Flavors a bit weak. (Tasted at "VIP Tasting Experience," Smokedown Farm 7/24/21.)

Beer 6: Platinum OG Hazy NEIPA (6.0% abv) Big IPA that is very well done: balanced, good carbonation full body, good flavor. (Tasted at "VIP Tasting Experience," Smokedown Farm 7/24/21.)

Beer 3: Tangerine Haze New England Pale Ale (5.5% abv) Big for an NEIPA. Very good in its style category! (Tasted at Alvarium 8/28/19.)

Beer 7: Phresh Hazy NEIPA (6.5% abv) Guest beer at Steady Habit BrewCo. Citrus, fruity. Good and low key. Well done. (Tasted at Steady Habit BrewCo 6/19/22.)

Beer 4: THICC Raspberry Milkshake IPA (7.2% abv) Amazing! Big raspberry flavor, but nicely complex. Full-bodied, not light. Excellent. (Tasted at Alvarium 8/28/19.)
