Impression

Bad Dream was always about a bunch of bookish, nerdy friends getting together to share their love of mysteries and beer. It was in a nondescript commercial strip mall. I remember parking and telling the person I was with to stay in the car, because the joint looked like the very definition of "unpromising." One step in, and I turned right back to the car, face beaming, to tell her that in fact, this looked like a true find. Indeed, the beer was quite good, the library atmosphere had us giggling nervously at the sheer audacity of the owners, and by the time the staff got through explaining their vision, we were charmed into thinking it could work. Unfortunately, it did not. Later, I heard a rumor that this feisty young group made a tiny profit when they sold to Candlewood Brewing. True or not, I never felt that it was the atmosphere that killed this place. The location, a mile or so from Danbury, in a New Milford strip mall, may have been the real nightmare in this sad story...

Beers Tasted

Beer 1: Tortuga Lechuga Mexican Lager (5.0% abv) Like a fuller-bodied, tastier version of a Mexican light beer. (Tasted at Bad Dream Brewing 7/5/19.)

Beer 2: Squirrel Awareness Month Harvest Ale (5.5% abv) Classic Märzen. Nutty and lighter-bodied, though still full-flavored. (Tasted at Bad Dream Brewing 7/5/19.)

Beer 3: Detached Headspace Stout (6.0% abv) Skilled approximation of an Irish Stout, if a tad too much coffee flavor. Nice, tasty beer.(Tasted at Bad Dream Brewing 7/5/19.)
