Impression

I totally get why Bad Sons is so popular; I just wish the quality of their beers matched the style of their taproom. HUGE brewery & tasting room. Logo is a hophead with a Grateful Dead face - nice touch. Old 19th century shop machines integrated into design of room. Pool table in back. Lights are old filament bulbs. A little too dark, but one of the coolest tap rooms in Connecticut.

BEERS TASTED

Beer 1: Loompa Strawberry Fruited Gose / Sour (4.5% abv) Very subtle strawberry flavor. Not very effervescent. Good. Not great. (Tasted at Bad Sons 7/26/2019.)

Beer 5: Great Day Summer Hazy NEIPA (6.0% abv) Low flavor. Disappointing. (Tasted at the Third Annual Summer Beerfest at the Courtyard by Marriott Downtown Waterbury 7/23/21.)

Beer 2: Hop Skull American Pale Ale (5.4% abv) Very milky & frothy appearance. Bartender explained that it was "fresh from the brewery today." Very low flavor and carbonation. I frankly didn't like this beer at all. (Tasted at Bad Sons 7/26/2019.)

Beer 6: Doobelicious (7.0% abv) More flavor than Great Day. Also clearer and more focused. (Tasted at the Third Annual Summer Beerfest at the Courtyard by Marriott Downtown Waterbury 7/23/21.)

Beer 3: Mahogany Shoals American Amber (6.2% abv) Some coffee taste. Again - low carbonation. Nice, rich amber color, but disappointing on the palate. Like a weak coffee porter. (Tasted at Bad Sons 7/26/2019.)

Beer 7: Sour Doobs (7.2% abv) Doobius NEIPA gets soured, then blueberries are added. Perhaps this is not such a good idea: no flavor, no blueberries... (Tasted at the Third Annual Summer Beerfest at the Courtyard by Marriott Downtown Waterbury 7/23/21.)

Beer 4: Mechanical Milkman Nitro Double Milk Imperial Stout (5.5% abv) Some cow-patty brett, but no carbonation, and very attenuated roast. Meh. (Tasted at Bad Sons 7/26/2019.)

Beer 8: Doobius NEIPA (7.2% abv) No taste at all. Very disappointing. (Tasted at CT Beer Festival, XL Center 4/22/23.)
