Broken Bow
Impression
I went to Broken Bow on July 4th, so I was a bit concerned that the hours might not be reflected on their website. No worries - they were correct! The tasting room is accessed via a vestibule. Once inside, the bar is on the left, with "facilities" on the right. Bathroom was very clean and well-lit. The tasting room is quite dark, on the other hand, and has a somewhat cramped indoor seating area. Beers were reasonable, at $6-7.50 (in 2020). Menu is categorized by "year-round beers" and "seasonals & specialties." A gluten-free cider and three "slushies" are also available. The taps face down into an enamel trough that looks like a half-bathtub. The bar is rough wood. Classic Rock station playing; I noticed U2 & Mumford & Sons playing. Bartender & Manager seemed preoccupied with multi-tasking, Pleasant enough, but not engaged with the cusomter. Yes/No answers to questions; no small talk. But that could have been the effect of Covid, since I visited in 2020. (Masks were required.) There are also copper tanks in the tasting room. Customers must go through the brewing area to get to the beer garden: a bottling line, large tanks, empty kegs. Fun to see the working area! The nicest part of BB is the outside terrace, past the brewing room. It was a very hot day, but all the tables had umbrellas, which were vital. I had my choice of octagonal, picnic, or two-top tables, and there are even recliners available on the wood-chip-covered terrace. A cool feature is the huge tank, marked "Broken Bow Brewing" in the outside space. The space is fenced off from the road, and traffic noise is not really bothersome. About 16 people were present, with 1-2 coming and going regularly. The terrace could probably accomodate at least twice that number.
