Impression
I got to Coles Road Brewery on a scorching day, breaking a sweat during the 50 yards from my air-conditioned car to the front door. Coles Road's location in the old East Berlin train station made me smile even before I walked in. Inside, the owners spiffed up the taproom without throwing away the panelling and basic RR-depot feel of the place. Two points in Coles's favor already! The clincher, though, was the coolness provided not by AC, but by high ceilings. Natural. Humane. The bartendress understood the rhythm of service, chatting with customers to make them feel at home, always focused on the patron, but making sure folks were topped up or served at all times. Oh... and the beer was very finely crafted, and a revelation: it's often the less renowned breweries in the State that make fine beer!
BEERS TASTED
Beer 1: Prelude Helles Lager (5.0% abv) Really nice and refreshing, especially with the hot weather the day of my visit. The neutral-flavored, but well-carbonated, beer was like liquid tender loving care. The nice bitterness on the end, well incorporated in the beer, put a smile on my face, made me close my eyes, relax my shoulders, and sent me to the land of calm. (Tasted at Coles Road Brewery 7/16/21.)
Beer 2: Orange Roads American Pale Wheat Beer (5.4% abv) Beautiful orange wisp on the mid-palate.
What an orange wheat beer shoudl be. This is the first homebrew that owner/brewer Paul Marchinkoski ever made. (Tasted at Coles Road Brewery 7/16/21.)
