Impression
I got to CT Valley around 7:35 PM, and everyone was cleaning up. I was informed that the taps had closed at 7:30, "due to the bad weather, and the fact that no one was able to make it." Fair, I guess, but kind of unapologetic when they told me that. I later learned, as did everyone, that CT Valley was having issues that could put anyone in an unwelcoming mood. So I got a 4-pk. of Magic Dragon Sour, which I unfortunately took no notes on, so I cannot review it here. OTOH, when I saw CT Valley at the 2023 CT Brewers Guild Beer Fest at the XL Center, I gave them another try, and was impressed with their spiked smoothies. Those are the beers I review here.
Beers Tasted
Beer 1: Spiked Smoothie Strawberry Guava (5.0% abv) Surprisingly delicious, and very refreshing sort of milky/frothy sour. For purists, this is gimmicky beer; yet I confess I enjoy one in a session setting, where it's an option, and not the only thing available.
Beer 2: Spiked Smoothie Lemonade (5.0% abv) Surprisingly delicious, and very refreshing sort of milky/frothy sour. For purists, this is gimmicky beer; yet I confess I enjoy one in a session setting, where it's an option, and not the only thing available.
Beer 3: Blueberry Sour (5.5% abv) Wow! I could taste the fruit very well over the sour.
Beer 4: Trail Blazer IPA (8% IPA) The house's flagship beer. Delicious. Not as big as I expected. Balanced, not an olfactory bomb.
Beer 5: Bravo Tango Export Edition Bourbon Barrel Aged Stout (% abv) Delicious, with reasonable balance. Very surprising, since I have literally never had a bourbon-aged beer that I liked.
