Defiant
Impression
Directly in front of train station, which has no platform, past a parking lot. Huge front room 30-40 yards long, with real beer-hall look.Counters to right, in front of beer tanks. A bit of a frat house disorganization, but not a turnoff. Kitchen at far inside of brewery serves BBQ platters and chicken brisket, pulled pork, etc. Pearl River's restaurant scene is a bit honky-tonk, but P.R. is clearly a tight community. Visiting is a bit like stepping back to the 1970s.
Beers Tasted
Beer 1: Muddy Creek American Amber / Red Lager (5.6% abv) Dark brown color, with good brown malt flavor, but a little flat. Vague cocoa & caramel. Good for an average beer, but doesn't grab me. Sort of like a decent Munich Dunkel, but no more.
Beer 2: Baron von Weizen Hefeweizen (5.0% abv) Good, fresh, but lacking zest and banana flavors.
Beer 3: How 'bout that Wall Dark Hefeweizen (6.0% abv) Almost a sour.
Beer 4: Orange Cream Witbier (6.0 abv) Huge flavor. of Orange, Lemon and Caraway. But flat again. Still, best of the 5 tasted at Defiant on 7/4/20.
Beer 5: Morning Cup of Craic Coffee Export Stout (9.7% abv) Huge. Brewery says it is "Irish Coffe Style," but actually tastes like chocolate candy on end. Yuck.
