Impression

Great Falls was one of my favorite breweries, and it really made me sad to see it go. Not surprising to see that GFBC offered its loyal customers one last go on New Year's Eve, 2024. Seemed apt for a brewery that provided so much joy over the years. I had to go up to mourn and help memorialize, but in truth the trip to North Canaan was always an easy one: driving the most beautiful part of Route 7, driving into the old Railroad Depot, stopping by the New England Accordion and Concertina Museum, sitting in the large tasting room or on the terrace, and of course, having one of the better beers in Connecticut. You will be missed, Great Falls! In addition to the beers mentioned below, I made it up to Great Falls for the first time on July 5, 2019, when I had a Lazy Hazy Housy NEIPA(7.1%), a Hill Hefeweizen (5.6%), and a Blackberry River Ale (5.5%); on May 16, 2021, when I had a Canaan Mountain Lager (4.6%) and a Peanut Butter Happy Camper (6.5%); and finally, on the said New Year's Eve, 2024. Unfortunately, none of my notes, if any were taken on these dates, survive.

Beers Tasted

Beer 1: Blackberry River Ale Fruit Beer (5.5% abv) FIRST TASTING: No notes available. (Tasted 7/5/19.) SECOND TASTING: Nice flavor, but not huge. Watery on finish. (Tasted at the Third Annual Summer Beerfest at the Courtyard by Marriott Downtown Waterbury 7/23/21.)

Beer 2: Fruit Snack Raspberry Lime & Lactose (4.5% abv) Big flavor, good fruit. Good sour! (Tasted at the Third Annual Summer Beerfest at the Courtyard by Marriott Downtown Waterbury 7/23/21.)

Beer 5: Lime Rock Park Lager (4.8% abv) FIRST TASTING: This beer has little flavor. It has good carbonation, but it is rather bland. (Tasted at the Connecticut Brewfest, Oakdale theater, 10/9/21.) SECOND TASTING: Lighter refreshing beer, but too weak on flavor. (Tasted at the Third Annual Summer Beerfest at the Courtyard by Marriott Downtown Waterbury 7/23/21.)

Beer 6: Burgeon BeerCo Cascade-Dry-hopped Blonde Ale (Guest beer) (5% abv) Good roast flavors; refreshing; delicious! (Tasted at the Connecticut Brewfest, Oakdale theater, 10/9/21.)

Beer 3: Baryshnikov's Last Dance Russian Imperial Stout - Collaboration with Woodbury. (10.4% abv) Bourbon really apparent on the palate. Some cheesiness, though... (Tasted at the Third Annual Summer Beerfest at the Courtyard by Marriott Downtown Waterbury 7/23/21.)

Beer 7: Lazy Hazy Housy Hazy NEIPA (7.1% abv) Good carbonation and body. Juicy, but not overly rich. Has some cat's phee on attack. (Tasted at the Connecticut Brewfest, Oakdale theater, 10/9/21.)

Beer 4: Luminosity NEIPA (6.6% abv) Tails off. Weak. Meh. (Tasted at the Third Annual Summer Beerfest at the Courtyard by Marriott Downtown Waterbury 7/23/21.)

Beer 8: Vanilla Bean Porter (5.5% (?) abv) Big, beautiful, restrained coffee flavor.
Very well done. Bigger body for a porter. (Tasted at the Connecticut Brewfest, Oakdale theater, 10/9/21.)
