Hop Culture Farms
TAP ROOM
ROUTE: CT Route 66
Founded: 2018
Impression
Hop Culture Farm is a barnwood structure with a cool, if dimly-lit, main room, and a large, airy patio in back of the building. HCF always seems to attract a lively crowd; it has one of the better music programs among Connecticut's breweries. For some, HCF might have been a place to wet one's whistle on the way to buy cheese at Cato Corner Farm - only one minute away by car - but HCF is now unquestionably a destination, especially through the hard work of Heather Wilson's daily appearances on Facebook and Instagram. Not only is Heather the owner of HCF with her husband Sam, she is the brewery's winsome spokesperson.
BEERS TASTED
Beer 1: American Hopic #4 American Pale Ale (6% abv) Hazy & unfiltered. More like an IPA. Good, but a little flat. (Tasted at HCF 7/7/21.)
Beer 5: What the Fruit? Cherry-Lime Fruited Sour (4.5% abv) Huge fruit, and good differentiation of cherry and lime. Delicious! (Tasted at CT Beer Festival 4/22/23.)
Beer 2: What the Fruit? Fruited Sour (4.5% abv) Ooh! Raspberry & red fruit, but also good, biscuity/yeasty finish that surprises and is fantastic. (Tasted at HCF 7/7/21.)
Beer 3: Blarney Boots Irish Dry Stout (5.5% abv) Big coffee flavor, with a touch of sweetness. Standard beer, but quite well-made. (Tasted at HCF 7/7/21.)
Beer 4: Dad Bod NEIPA (7.0% abv) Very nice. Good citrus on finish. Balanced. Minor complaint might be a touch too much fruit on finish. (Tasted at CT Beer Festival 4/22/23.)
