ROUTE: I-84 West

Founded: 2012

Impression

Neighborhood-scale joint, with a speakeasy feel on the outside, i.e., a cinderblock wall with only a reinforced door to mark the premises. Very mysterious! (But totally cool.) This is not just a brewery; there are tons of liquors in a rack behind the bar if you want a cocktail. There is also a big gameroom in the back with lots of tables, which is really nice. Unfortunately, the beer here consistently shows low carbonation, and some of the beers are low on flavor. It seems like a scale-up issue from home brewing, and shouldn't be difficult to resolve.

BEERS TASTED

Beer 1: WinterBane Doppelbock (7.8% abv) Some nice coffee flavor, but watery on back palate. Very low carbonation.

Beer 2: Oktoberfest Märzen (5.8% abv) Vague caramel flavor, but not very well extruded. No carbonation to speak of.

Beer 3: Whiting St Lager (5.6% abv) Nice fullness and some flavor, but almost no carbonation. As a result, it is not very refreshing.

Beer 4: L'Orangerie Farmhouse Ale / Saison (5.3% abv) nice flavor of Saison beer on the attack, but quickly becomes attenuated. Again, low carbonation is an issue.
