Impression
It would be hard to come up with a more dramatic name for a brewery, but Sing Sing Kill coyly hides behind the explanation that "Sing Sing" originates with the Sint Sincks Native Americans, while a "Kill" is Dutch for a stream. The leap to Sing Sing prison and inmates who may have murdered is wholly coincidental, of course! Still, if SSK is coy about its name, it is also fully at home on one of the grittier sections of the Hudson riverbank. Its an immaculately clean bar, made of black stone, inset with the SSK name; the window wall is made up of alternating glass and brick columns and the table area looks out onto Spring Street, with the Hudson vaguely visible in the background..The soundtrack is straight out of WFUV. Altogether, a relaxing hangout with a mellow crowd.
Beers Tasted
Beer 1: Eric's RyePA (5.4% abv) Very nice amber-colored, quite dry rye IPA, with very pleasant medium body, and a tiny hint of candy on the finish. The bitterness, also on the finish, is quite long. On re-taste after beer warmed, the rye really came out.
Beer 2: Singularity American Pale Ale (5.5% abv) Nice pale ale. Almost bright. Medium weight, with good balance between malt, hops & alcohol. On re-taste after beer warmed up a bit, there was some nice lemon flavor. Nothing sticks out unnaturally; no attempt to do something unusual. Just a refreshing beer.
Beer 3:Cervisia Laetiporous Farmhouse Ale Saison with Hen of Woods Mushroom (6.2% abv) Saison marshmallow maltiness A bit disjointed. No Hen-of-Woods flavor to speak of. Very nice menthol finish on sides of mouth. Mushroom is a very nice idea, and on re-taste after warming, more perfume came out, but ultimately not very interesting.
