Impression
Next door to Maltose Express homebrew supply store. Large (~60 ft. x 60 ft.) very plain room, but inviting due to table and seating availability and position of bar. Very hospitable & informative bartenders. Board games at entrance. Busy with sizaable local crowd of generally older customers.
Beers Tasted
Beer 1: 29 Pews (6.0% abv). Citra-based IPA that I was told is their flagship brew. Golden color, hazy. Classic IPA with big malt and hops, but nothing very special. Overly bitter, w/ some cat's pee notes. (Tasted at Veracious 4/5/19.)
Beer 2: Noella (10.5% abv). Bourbon-barrel aged Belgian quadruple Christmas Ale. Brown to black color. Candy sugar, maple syrup. Complex flavors of Bourbon, chocolate, turbinado sugar. But too alcoholic, very heavy, and a touch disjointed. (Tasted at Veracious 4/5/19.)
Beer 3: Lucy's Last Call (9.3% abv). Belgian Golden Ale. Gold colored; hazy. Big yeasty. Not unpleasant foam in mouth. Very akin to an authentic Belgian Golden Ale. The best of the beers I tasted here. (Tasted at Veracious 4/5/19.)
Beer 4: Locomotive Imperial Milk Stout (8.0% abv). Black color. Coffee & chocolate on attack. Akin to a Guinness, but a touch too sweet. Very full body. Lactose added to boil; cocoa nibs to fermenter. Collaboration with Broken Symmetry (Bethel, CT). (Tasted at Veracious 4/5/19.)
