Willimantic Brewing Co.
PUB
ROUTE: CT Route 6 (East)
Founded: 1994
Impression
In the old Willimantic Post Office. Restaurant in back; bar/pub entrance on side of building. Terrace in front. Parking was tight, despite many spaces. Clearly a popular place. Old-style wooden bar, built when bar was opened, is in PO's old foyer; high arched windows over area that used to be mail-sorting room. Cathedral ceilings. Many beers from other CT brewers on tap.
BEERS TASTED
Beer 1: Lou's Legacy Cask Lime & Mint (? abv) Big lime & mint flavor. Oddly, was served warm. Light to medium body. Some maltiness, but not much hop at all. Very original; very well done. (Tasted at Willimantic Brewery 8/2/19.)
Beer 5: Charter Oak Brewery Hidden Constitution Honey Brown Ale (5.5% abv) Tasted on 8/2/19, when it was a Guest beer, and "Kill the Keg Special, that day. Lively, with excellent brown ale flavor. Very impressive.
Beer 2: The Hero We Need Cherry Amber (? abv) No discernable cherry. Disappointing. (Tasted at Willimantic Brewery 8/2/19.)
Beer 6: Six Shooter Oyster Stout (5.9% abv) Nice, alkaline offset to the coffee flavors. An unexpectedly good match of flavors. Carbonation could be a touch higher. Complex, in an unusual way. (Tasted at the Connecticut Brewfest, Oakdale theater, 10/9/21.)
Beer 3: Clarity of a Firm Mind Gluten-free IPA (? abv) Gluten Free, and it shows, though good body and carbonation. OK flavor, but not pronounced. (Tasted at Willimantic Brewery 8/2/19.)
Beer 7: *Cask* Hazelnut Oktoberfest Märzen (6% abv) Nice, nutty, with decent carbonation, but not over the top. Good typicity. This beer is a touch too sweet, which I felt on the sides of my tongue, strangely enough. (Tasted at the Connecticut Brewfest, Oakdale theater, 10/9/21.)
Beer 4: Amberlicious (? abv) Best of the Willimantic BrewCo beers: good, crisp, toasty, good carbonation. I enjoyed this beer. (Tasted at Willimantic Brewery 8/2/19.)
Beer 8: Certified Gold Blonde / Golden Ale (4.7% abv) Really tasteless and flat. (Tasted at the CT Beer Festival, XL Center, 4/22/23.)
